Good Morning,
The past week concluded the 2020/21 fiscal period for the City of Spencer. This was the busiest season in a long time and the highest revenue total ever at The Muni. Our revenues totalled $493,752 and expenses were $425,562. The budget has not been finalized yet so some of the expenses could still change. All in all it was an amazing budget completed thanks to the support of our golfing community.
Our Season pass totals were the highest totals since 2009. Family passes = 26, couples = 56, single = 175, young adult = 25, junior = 46, and punch cards = 43. The green fees were the highest since 2008 and the cart rentals finished at the highest total ever at the golf course. The golf course has been extremely busy every day and the financial figures reflect the number of rounds played during the budget period.
This first week of July has followed the pace set last month. The golf course has been very busy on Friday and Saturday as we continue with the holiday weekend. It’s great to see all the golfers enjoying themselves each day. I expect the next two days to be just as busy since the weather forecast is so nice.
This coming week the focus will be applying a foliar fertilizer application, wetting agent, and fungicide to the greens. The wetting agent assists the water movement through the soil profile and helps hold moisture at the surface to eliminate isolated dry areas. The fertilizer application is scheduled every 10-14 days to keep the greens healthy. Overall the greens have been in great shape this season as we battle high stress conditions on a daily basis.
Also, I will be applying an insecticide to eliminate the grub population in August. This application will be sprayed on the tees, fairways, and green surrounds. It will limit the grub population and eliminate the skunks digging up our turf in the latter months. We will still see a little bit of activity in some of the roughs but it will be minimal. The focus is to keep the high traffic areas free from any animals digging for grubs.
The irrigation system continues to work on a regular basis. The water permit is for the months of April through October. We have currently used close to half of our water permit for this time period. The weather conditions need to change and provide us with more precipitation. We cannot sustain this water usage much longer.
This concludes another week at The Muni. The city council will be meeting on July 6th at 6:30 PM. The golf board will meet on July 12th at 5:00 PM. Please let me know if there are questions or more information needed by anyone. Enjoy the remainder of the holiday weekend. Be safe!
